M3U or Xtream Codes — which do you have?
Providers hand out access in one of two shapes, and it's worth knowing which you're holding before you start.
| What you were given | What it is | Choose |
|---|---|---|
A single long link ending in .m3u or .m3u8 |
A playlist file listing every channel | M3U URL |
| A server address plus a username and password | An API login the app queries directly | Xtream Codes |
A portal link ending in /c/ |
A Stalker portal — usually an Xtream panel underneath | Stalker portal — or see below |
If you were given both, use Xtream Codes. It pulls categories, video-on-demand, and programme data in a structured way instead of one flat list, so browsing is faster and better organised.
Got a portal link ending in /c/? You have two ways in, and neither requires hunting down a MAC address. If your provider gave you a username and password along with it, remove the /c/ from the end and enter the rest as your Xtream Codes host with that login — a portal address like http://example-host.tv/c/ becomes the Xtream host http://example-host.tv. Same subscription, better browsing. And if all you have is the portal and a MAC, add it directly as a Stalker portal — TvPro Player loads those too.
Adding your playlist
Have your details ready
Open the email or portal page from your provider on your phone so you can read the details while typing. M3U URLs are long and easy to get wrong from memory.
Open TvPro Player and add a source
On first launch you're taken straight to the add-source screen. If you've used the app before, open the menu and choose to add another source — you can keep several and switch between them.
Pick your format
Select M3U URL or Xtream Codes based on the table above. Give the source a name you'll recognise later, especially if you plan to add more than one.
Type the details carefully
For M3U, paste or type the full URL including http:// or https://. For Xtream Codes, enter the host exactly as given — some providers include a port number like :8080, and leaving it off will stop the login working.
Watch for a trailing space at the end. It's invisible and it's the single most common reason a valid playlist is rejected.
Let it index
The app downloads the playlist and sorts channels into groups automatically — Sports, Movies, News, Entertainment — and once indexed, search finds any channel across the whole playlist in seconds. A few thousand channels take moments to load. Very large playlists take longer on the first load while the index is built — after that, launches are fast.
Typing on a remote is miserable. Install the free Fire TV app on your phone and use its keyboard — it types into whatever field is selected on the TV. For long M3U URLs this turns a five-minute ordeal into ten seconds.
When it doesn't work
The playlist won't load at all
Test the same URL in a browser on your phone. If it downloads a file, the link is good and the problem is a typo on the TV. If the browser errors too, the URL or your subscription is the issue and your provider is the next stop.
It loads but there are no channels
Usually an expired or suspended subscription — the playlist file still exists but comes back empty. Occasionally the provider has changed their server address without notice. Either way, check with them.
Channels appear but nothing plays
Almost always a connection limit. Most plans allow one or two simultaneous streams, so if the same login is running on a phone or another TV, the new one is refused. Close the other session and try again.
No programme guide
M3U playlists don't always include EPG data. If yours doesn't, add the separate XMLTV guide URL from your provider in the source settings. Xtream Codes logins normally carry the guide automatically.
Everything buffers
Work out whether it's your connection or the provider. Run a speed test on the TV device itself — not your phone — since Fire TV Sticks on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi often measure far below what the rest of the house gets. If speeds are fine, try a lower-bitrate version of the same channel; if that plays cleanly, the source is overloaded.
Beyond M3U
An M3U playlist isn't the only thing TvPro Player will load. The same add-source screen accepts Stalker and MAC portals, your own Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex server, and user-added Stremio-compatible addons. You can run several sources side by side and switch between them without reconfiguring anything.
Once your playlist is in, the app starts working for you: the Sports Hub matches live games across 160+ leagues to the channels in your playlist so game day takes one click instead of a search, and household profiles give each person their own favorites, groups, and Continue Watching from the same playlist.
The app ships with no content of its own — it plays what you point it at, and nothing else.
Common questions
Can I add more than one playlist?
Yes. Add as many sources as you like and switch between them from the menu. Naming them clearly when you add them saves confusion later.
Will my playlist sync to my other TVs?
Yes. Playlists, favorites, custom groups, and Continue Watching sync across up to five TV devices signed in with the same email. Extra device slots are $4.99 each.
Does the app store my playlist or my viewing?
Your source details are stored so they can sync to your other devices. TvPro doesn't touch your streams, log what you watch, or sell data.
How do I edit or remove a source later?
Open the source list from the menu, select the one you want, and choose edit or remove. Removing a source doesn't affect any others you've added.
