How to Watch Jellyfin on Fire TV

If you self-host, the Fire TV client situation is a familiar frustration. Here's how to connect a Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex server to a Fire TV Stick — and why keeping your live TV sources in the same app is worth doing.

Jellyfin publishes its own Fire TV client, and it works. This guide is for people who want one app on the home screen instead of three — a media server client that also handles live TV, without a second remote-control dance to switch between them.

What you need

Connecting your server

01

Find your server address

On the same network, that's the machine's local IP and port — something like http://192.168.1.20:8096. If you access your server from outside the house, use your domain or reverse-proxy address instead, including https://.

Not sure of the local IP? It's shown in the Jellyfin dashboard under Networking, or in your router's device list.

02

Add a new source

Open TvPro Player, go to add a source, and choose Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex. These sit alongside any M3U or Xtream sources you've already added — adding one doesn't replace the others.

03

Enter the address, then your username and password. Use the Fire TV phone app's keyboard rather than the remote if your password is long.

04

Browse your libraries

Libraries load with artwork, metadata, and resume points intact. Continue Watching reflects what your server already knows, so a film started on a laptop picks up on the TV where you left it.

Why one app for both

Most self-hosters end up with a split setup: a media server client for the library, and something else entirely for live TV. Two apps, two interfaces, two sets of favorites, and a home screen that fills up.

Running both in one app means your server library and your live channels share the same browsing, the same search, the same favorites, and the same Continue Watching row. Add Trakt and scrobbling covers everything you watch rather than half of it.

Worth being clear about what this app is: TvPro Player is a player with no content of its own. It connects to servers and sources you already have. If you don't run a server and don't have a playlist, there's nothing here for you.

Troubleshooting

The server can't be reached

Check the port is included — an address without :8096 is the usual culprit on a local network. Then confirm the Fire TV and the server are on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi networks isolate devices from each other and will block the connection silently.

It works at home but not away

Local IP addresses only resolve on the local network. For remote access you need your server reachable from outside, through a domain, reverse proxy, or VPN back into your network. Point the app at that address instead.

Playback stutters on high-bitrate files

Usually transcoding. If the server is converting a large remux on the fly without hardware acceleration, it will struggle — check the Jellyfin dashboard while a problem file is playing to see whether it says direct play or transcode. Enabling hardware acceleration on the server fixes most of these.

Some libraries are missing

Library access is set per user on the server. Check that account's permissions in the Jellyfin dashboard rather than looking for a setting in the app.

Common questions

Does this replace the official Jellyfin app?

Only if you want it to. It's an alternative client for people who'd rather have their server library and live TV in one place. The official app keeps working alongside it.

Can I connect more than one server?

Yes — multiple servers, and multiple source types, all at once. Add a Jellyfin server, a Plex server, and an M3U playlist and switch between them from the menu.

Does it support Stremio addons?

Yes, user-added Stremio-compatible addons work as another source type. As with everything else, you supply the addon — none are bundled.

Will my setup sync to my other TVs?

Yes. Sources, favorites, custom groups, and Continue Watching sync across up to five TV devices on the same email, with extra device slots at $4.99 each.

Does TvPro see my media or my viewing?

No. Your server details are stored so they can sync to your other devices, and that's it. Streams aren't proxied, viewing isn't logged, and nothing is sold.
